Why is the dogs licking? Starting to the dogs life when the mother sees her pups she communicates with them through licking, how she stimulates them to start breathing and how she cleans them,So it is very important for the puppies.

Sometimes you might have observe that at the time of the birth of a dog the dogs starts licking near the mother`s mouth, it is also a sort of a submissive gesture, the more subordinate members of a pack will lick  the more dominant members that`s important in maintaining pack harmony.

Dog`s sometimes also licks the peoples because they like the taste of an owner`s salty skin and out of habit. Mostly, with domestic dogs it is the sigh of the affection with the owner.

Licking provides a sence of pleasure to the dog and a feeling of comfort--Like the feeling peoples feel when they bite their nales.

                         

 If your Dog`s licking is purely a sigh of affection then one way to decrease this is to ignore that.When your dog starts licking you get up and go somewhere far from your dog, so that your dog will understand that you are not liking this type of behaviour after sometime.

If a dog is chronically licking himself ,It can be because he is bored,has skin problems such as allergies or could suffering from the pain.So you should be very sure that your dog is getting enough stimulation and rule out any infections by visiting your vet.
